The NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project is live!

March 28, 2017

It’s official – the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project is live and we are besides ourselves!
The brightest beam of sunshine on this gray day.

It has been our honor and privilege to help make this ground-breaking project come to life. Based on over 25 years of research and advocacy this is the first initiative of its kind to document sites of historic and cultural significance associated with the LGBT community in the five boroughs. The importance of raising public awareness about the LGBT community’s contributions to American history and the struggles it has faced in achieving acceptance and equality under the law is more important now than ever. NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project inspires all of us to take a closer look at the places we walk past every day and to appreciate a history that, until this initiative, has largely been invisible.

Here’s to the first 100 mapped sites and many more to come!
