Carved in Stone

Websites are cool and all but we’re SO excited to announce the latest addition to our portfolio – a piece of hand-carved stone. We were honored to work with artist Marc Swanson on the design of a limestone base for his new permanent outdoor sculpture – Descent of Civilization (Bison Memorial).

Commissioned by the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, MO, and unveiled in conjunction with Marc’s solo exhibition at the museum, the piece pays homage to the American Buffalo, the majestic beast of the American West, great herds of which once blanketed the North American continent.

Re:Form School opens

We were honored to work with Yosi Sergant’s TaskForce team to design the website for this great art event aimed at raising awareness about education reform. Icing on the cake: the super sweet branding designed by HunterGatherer.

Exhibitions and events open this Saturday on the grounds of NYC’s oldest catholic school – corner of Mott & Prince. The event features works by over a hundred artists – including Chris Johanson, Friends With You, Shepard Fairey, and Swoon – along with some great workshops and activities all weekend.

The Shirt Project

Recipients of a Rhoda Lubalin Fellowship, Rich Watts and Kiss Me I’m Polish’s very own Louise Ma produced ten t-shirts from August 2007 to March 2009. Each was printed with diagrams that relayed information from a recent news story, and was available by subscription, like a newspaper.

Their grande finale shirt dealt with the creeping death of newsprint. It features the work of twelve New York City-based designers, arranged like a classified ad section. Among the designs is a contribution by Agnieszka Gasparska, illustrating the drop in stock values of the top six U.S. Newspaper companies.

AIGA Fresh Dialogue: 20th Anniversary

In 1999, the American Institute of Graphic Arts launched Fresh Dialogue, a series aimed at bringing together emerging design talent and providing them with an open forum to discuss their own work and the direction of the field.

This year, five talented and eloquent designers (Alice Chung, Karen Hsu, Agnieszka Gasparska, Rodrigo Corral and Alan Dye) from the disparate worlds of fashion, publishing, web, advertising and art unleashed a dialogue about their work. They were kept in check by design’s inky colossus, the always unpredictable Chip Kidd.
